Black holes and nonrelativistic quantum systems.
We describe black holes in d+3 dimensions, whose thermodynamic properties correspond to those of a scale-invariant nonrelativistic (d+1)-dimensional quantum system with a dynamical exponent z=2. The gravitational model involves a massive Abelian vector field and a scalar field, in addition to the metric. The energy per particle in the dual theory is |micro|d/(d+2) at any temperature (micro is t...
متن کاملFormally exact quantization condition for nonrelativistic quantum systems.
Based on the standard transfer matrix, a formally exact quantization condition for arbitrary potentials, which outflanks and unifies the historical approaches, is derived. It can be used to find the exact bound-state energy eigenvalues of the quantum system without solving an equation of motion for the system wave functions.
متن کاملCounting rule for Nambu-Goldstone modes in nonrelativistic systems.
The counting rule for Nambu-Goldstone modes is discussed using Mori's projection operator method in nonrelativistic systems at zero and finite temperatures. We show that the number of Nambu-Goldstone modes is equal to the number of broken charges, Q(a), minus half the rank of the expectation value of [Q(a), Q(b)].
متن کاملNonrelativistic effective Lagrangians.
Chiral perturbation theory is extended to nonrelativistic systems with spontaneously broken symmetry. In the effective Lagrangian, order parameters associated with the generators of the group manifest themselves as effective coupling constants of a topological term, which is gauge invariant only up to a total derivative. In the case of the ferromagnet, a term connected with the Brouwer degree d...
متن کاملIntegral for Nonrelativistic Quantum Electrodynamics
Abstract: The Feynman path integral for nonrelativistic quantum electrodynamics is studied mathematically of a standard model in physics, where the electromagnetic potential is assumed to be periodic with respect to a large box and quantized thorough its Fourier coefficients. In physics, the Feynman path integral for nonrelativistic quantum electrodynamics is defined very formally. For example,...
